Sydney Larval Fish Project

The day before

Check the weather forecast:

• Weather and coastal waters forecast are checked on the Commonwealth Bureau of Meteorology website
• The swell, wave heights and water temperature for the Sydney area can be checked through the Manly Hydraulics Laboratory website or by ringing Sydney Coast Guard 9337 5033.

Gather the necessary equipment and make sure everything is ready for an early start.

Decide who from the fish team will be going out and the roles each person will have for the day. Three people are needed to take plankton samples. Other Australian Museum staff and volunteers are encouraged to participate, as a day out in the field can be a lot of fun (especially if the weather is good, not so much fun if the weather is rough).
