Mammals of Sydney Harbour

Brushtail Possums, Ringtail Possums and Long-nosed Bandicoots are a few of the 40 species of mammals recorded in the Sydney region over the past two hundred years.


Introduction
Sydney Harbour provides a range of habitats for native mammals with over 40 species recorded in the last 200 years.

In the past Sydney Harbour supported a diverse array of marsupials from the Swamp Wallaby to the tiny Feathertail Glider.

Bats
One group of native mammals still seen regularly around the harbour, are bats, in particular Grey-headed Flying-foxes.

Four species of rodents currently inhabit Sydney Harbour and its environs.
