Wetland (fresh and brackish water includes mangroves and saltmarshes)

Lakes at Centennial Park and Bicentennial Park are ideal for watching wetland birds. Parramatta River, Middle Harbour and Lane Cove River also provide ample habitats for birdlife. Grey Teal Anas gracilis, Australian Pelicans Pelecanus conspicillatus, Purple Swamphens Porphyrio porphyrio, Pacific Black Ducks Anas platyrhynchos and Dusky Moorhens Gallinula tenebrosa are often numerous. Winter is particularly good for some species. Many elusive or cryptic species such as bitterns and crakes can be found if you are patient.
